Daniel Schmauss is Professor of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and Head of the Plastic Surgery Department at the Regional Hospital of Lugano (EOC), Switzerland. He studied medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich from 2002 to 2009, including several stays in the United States, and obtained his MD and German and US medical licenses in 2010.
His clinical training included cardiac surgery and plastic and hand surgery at the University Hospital Rechts der Isar in Munich. In 2016 he received his board certification in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgery and his venia legendi at the Technical University of Munich. He has worked at the EOC in Lugano since 2016, progressing from attending to senior attending and, since april 2026, department chair. In 2021 he was appointed Professor at the Università della Svizzera italiana.
His main clinical interests are breast surgery, especially breast reconstruction. He has authored over 100 scientific papers, serves as reviewer and editor for several journals, and has received multiple scientific and teaching awards.
